Bauleni Special needs project (BSNP) started in 1995 with the focus of providing quality education to children with special needs and other vulnerable children. Skills training has also been one of the activities that BSNP provides to the learners. Jenipher, who is in Grade 12A and hails from New Kasama within Lusaka and Andrew, a Grade 9A student from Bauleni compound, both dedicated pupils at Bauleni Special Needs Project (BSNP), have embarked on an extraordinary journey in shoe-making. The two initially had no experience in shoe-making but their determination has set them on the path to success.
With guidance from passionate instructors and hands-on training at BSNP, both students have become proficient in shoe-making, capable of repairing various

types of shoes. “I joined hesitantly,” Jenipher says, “but since then, I have achieved all good things from the skill”. Their commitment to mastering this skill has resulted in a growing clientele who appreciate their quality work and reasonable pricing.
Today, they not only handle sewing machines with confidence but also exhibit an impressive balance and coordination while working. Jenipher says “As a woman in the near future, I will be capable of providing for myself and my family and not dependent on a man”.
BSNP is incredibly proud of Jenipher and Andrew’s development. Their story
exemplifies the potential of young people when given the opportunity to learn and grow. Both students are excited about the future and are committed to further honing their skills, dreaming of one day expanding their shoe-making business and inspiring their peers to follow in their footsteps.
